Metrics: Reading the Data
Data without context is just noise. Learn which numbers actually dictate algorithmic growth.
The Hook Rate
The hook rate is defined as the percentage of people who watch the first 3 seconds of your video divided by total impressions. If your hook rate is below 30%, your video is dying before the story even begins.
How to fix a low hook rate: Add dynamic movement in the first frame, use a provocative statement, or open right in the middle of the action (in media res).
Average View Duration (AVD) & Retention
Retention graphs are the most honest feedback loop a creator has. Look for the "dips" — the exact second viewers swiped away.
- Did you take too long to get to the point?
- Was there a stagnant frame for more than 4 seconds?
- Did your tone drop in energy?
A flat retention line above 60% completion usually guarantees viral or semi-viral distribution on short-form platforms.
Conversion to Followers (True Tribe)
Millions of views mean nothing if no one sticks around. Your profile conversion rate tracks how many unique viewers clicked "follow". This requires a strong Call to Action (CTA) and a clear, focused profile bio so viewers instantly know what they are subscribing to.
